Distillery Tour & tasting

£15

Echlinville Tours offer a real insight into the workings of Northern Ireland’s first licenced distillery in over 125 years. Guests will be personally welcomed and guided through the process, from the barley arriving from the fields, through to the maturation warehouse where the Angels are certainly enjoying their share.

Enjoy welcome refreshments before following the journey of their spirit from ground to glass. Hear about their commitment to provenance and how they sow, grow, harvest and floor malt all their own barley on their distillery farm. View their beautiful copper stills and enjoy the earthy aromas of their whiskey maturation warehouse – but be careful not to disturb their sleeping casks. And after you have discovered how they capture the flavour, colour and mouthfeel of their spirits, relax and enjoy two drinks of your choice in their bar.

Review: Distillery Tour & Tasting (14:00 on 22/09/2018)

I had a little trouble findin Echlinville Distillery as it is tucked away on a side road. There is pakring onsite.

When I arrived I checked into the shop where I got chatting to the lady behind the counter and was offered a couple of small samples of their spirits (if I recall correctly it was a couple of their whiskies including the peated one).

I was then directed across the courtyard to the main building where you are invited to have tea and cakes (I had too many cakes, but I hadn't had lunch).

The tour starts from the tea room with an introduction to this history of the area and the property before moving onto the founding of the distillery.

The tour then moves down to the production area where the main focus is on the whiskey making although it does also touch on the gin and vodka as you move from pot stills to column stills.

The tour was a good one with a good level of detail on the process and history.

At the end of the tour of the production areas, we were invited to go down and look at the old Soviet tank bought by the distillery owner which was just outside the warehouse.

At the end of the tour, we returned to the tea room area; as we passed the bar we handed over the vouchers to claim two samples of our choice. I went for two of the whiskies, although you could select gin and vodka as well. I had two whiskies from the Dunville range.

No photos are allowed anywhere near the production areas.
