The Glencadam distillery is a distillery in Brechin, Angus, Scotland that produces single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery is owned by Angus Dundee plc and produces one malt whisky, with the remainder of production sold to blenders or used within Angus Dundee plc for use in blended whisky brands.

The distillery does not currently have a vistior centre so tours are strictly by appointment only.

Connoisseur’s Tour

The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours.

The Benriach Distillery tour will begin in one of only two working floor maltings in the speyside region, before taking you through the distillery where your guide will explain the whisky making process. In the still house you will learn about the bold and creative approach to distilling 3 types of spirit, uncovering the unconventional distilling heritage.

Your tour will continue with a visit to Warehouse 13, the oldest dunnage warehouse, home to our most experimental casks. Here you will discover how they have built their reputation for eclectic cask maturation, before sampling a range of the whiskies in the visitor centre.

Tours are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10AM and 2PM. The distillery shop is only open after the tour and has a wide range of our single malts and merchandise are available.

Discovery Tour

Discover Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery in downtown Louisville. Located in the historic Fort Nelson building on Main Street, this distillery is home to a legendary historic distillation system. Here you will learn about all of the extra steps Michter’s takes throughout the whiskey production process to pursue their goal of producing the greatest American whiskey, from barreling at a lower entry proof, to toasting our barrels before charring and heat cycling the warehouses. Following the tour, you will taste five different Michter’s expressions before heading up to the bar, where your visit will conclude with a cocktail demonstration and a small cocktail sample.

Founders Tour

Offered once per week, the Founders Tour includes the same introduction to the Michter’s production process as the Discovery tour, but also gives you the opportunity to delve into the process of distilling on the legendary Michter’s Pennsylvania pot still system. You will have the chance to nose samples of the heads cuts, hearts cuts and tails cuts from the stills and learn what characteristics Michter's distillers look for in their distillate. After your tour, you will join them for a tasting of 7 Michter’s whiskeys, including the legacy brands, Bomberger’s and Shenk’s, before receiving a gift to commemorate your visit to Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery.

Legacy Tour

Duation: 2 hours.

Offered once per month, the Legacy Tour is an exclusive in-depth educational distillery experience led by one of the senior members of Michter’s team. There will be an opportunity for you to delve into the process of distilling on the legendary Michter’s Pennsylvania pot still system. You will have the chance to nose samples of the heads cuts, hearts cuts and tails cuts from the stills and learn what characteristics Michter's distillers look for in theirr distillate. Each guest will participate in the filling of a barrel and will learn more about Michter’s approach to filtration. You will conclude your tour by tasting a very special selection of Michter’s whiskeys, including some of the rarest expressions. You will also receive a special gift to commemorate your visit.

Legacy Tours must be booked in advance.

The Glencadam Distillery was founded in 1825, by merchant George Cooper, about 200 yards from Brechin Distillery. David Scott was proprietor from 1827 to 1837. The distillery changed hands a number of times between 1837 and 1891. Gilmour, Thompson & Company Limited purchased the distillery in 1891 and used some of the Glencadam product in their Royal Blend brand of blended whisky. The distillery, as with most others, reduced production during World War II owing to fuel and grain rationing.

Hiram Walker bought the distillery in 1954, they were bought by George Ballantine & Son Ltd two years later, and ownership of the distillery eventually passed to Allied Domecq through further consolidation in the industry.[4] Allied Domecq mothballed the distillery in 2000 before selling the distillery to the present owners, Angus Dundee plc in 2003. Angus Dundee also own the Tomintoul Distillery.

The present owners quickly resumed production and the product from the distillery is used in their own blended and vatted malt whisky products, as well as being sold to other blenders. As of July 2010 Glencadam Malt Whisky is available in a range of official bottlings aged 10 to 21 years, as a component of Ballantine's and Stewart's Cream of the Barley blended whiskies, Angus Dundee's own blended and vatted whiskies, and in a number of other blended brands. Independent bottlings are also readily available, both as single malt and as vatted malts.

In November 2008, Angus Dundee plc re-launched the Glencadam line with new packaging and added a new 10 year-old single malt. Then, in July 2010 the company added three new expressions: a 21-year-old, a 12-year-old finished in port wood, and a 14-year-old finished in an oloroso sherry cask.
